The 100,000 MSMEs Initiative

The African Union Development Agency – NEPAD and the Ecobank Group are co-leading a Continental Initiative aimed at supporting MSMEs deal with the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic.

AUDA-NEPAD launched the 100,000 MSMEs Programme to accelerate African economic transformation, provide skills development programming and build resilience against the economic shock triggered by the global pandemic. The ‘100 000 MSMEs’ initiative seeks to build the capacity of enterprises in Africa through training on entrepreneurial and business skills to improve access to finance and new markets, while establishing networks for support and incubation to bolster their success.

After the successful launch of the MSME Academy in 2020, we are now launching the pilot phase of the MSME Finance.

An online free training to grow your business

Ecobank and AUDA-NEPAD will pilot the MSME Finance pillar by supporting 30 participants from each of the 8 pilot countries namely Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda and Togo.

A total sum of $2.0million will be extended in the form of working capital to beneficiaries across the eight (8) countries in this first phase and who met the set criteria for financing.

The training and financing component under this initiative is set to commence from May 27, 2021. It will comprise four (4) modules and cover topics such as Risk Management, Business Sustainability and Bankability, Adapting Operations and Business Compliance and Leadership Development.

Additional - Criteria For Financing

After training how does one qualify for the financing component
The potential beneficiary must meet the set criteria for financing as follows:

  • Successful completion of the training program

  • Your business should have been operational for at least 24 months

  • Your business should have the potential to be impactful and have high visibility

  • You pledge to expand your employee base in the future

  • Submit a minimum of 6 months account statement, Bank and Trade Checking's and in the case of an Ecobank customer a call memo not older than one month

  • There should be clear evidence of a sustainable source of cash flow and a business cash conversion cycle

  • The physical location of the enterprises should be easily accessible

  • Loss making business entities will be excluded

  • Special consideration for Women in Business (50/50)
