Ecobank Zimbabwe Opens New Head Office in Harare, Marking a Milestone in Sustainable Banking and National Development

Harare, Zimbabwe, 14 September 2026 - Ecobank Zimbabwe today officially opened its new Head Office in Borrowdale, Harare, in a landmark ceremony attended by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa, senior Government officials, Ecobank Group leadership, regulators, business leaders and distinguished guests.

The new Head Office represents a major investment in Zimbabwe’s financial sector and reflects Ecobank’s long-term commitment to the country, its people and its growth trajectory. Purpose-built to support modern banking operations, the facility integrates sustainability, digital capability and customer-focused service delivery.

His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. Dr. E. D. Mnangagwa, said the building is “a testament to the resilience of our economy and the unwavering confidence that the international financial community has in the Vision of the Second Republic.”


He added that the headquarters “showcases Ecobank’s confidence in Zimbabwe’s growing economy and a viable business environment,” and commended the institution for demonstrating that “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo – a country is built by its own people.”

The President also praised the quality of local execution, noting that the project was delivered by Zimbabwean professionals and stands as “a monument to local capability.”

Ecobank Group Chairman, Mr. Papa Ndiaye, described the opening as “a statement of confidence in Zimbabwe’s future,” adding that it reflects the bank’s belief in “the resilience, creativity, and determination of Zimbabwe’s people.”

Ecobank Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Jeremy Awori, said the event marks “fifteen years of partnership with Zimbabwe” and noted that the new Head Office is “a visible demonstration of our long-term commitment to Zimbabwe and our confidence in the country’s future.”

Mr. Awori highlighted Ecobank Zimbabwe’s growth since entering the market in 2011, its contribution to financial inclusion and trade facilitation, and its continued focus on innovation, investment and shared prosperity.

Ecobank Zimbabwe Managing Director, Mr. Moses Kurenjekwa, said the new headquarters reflects the bank’s ambition to “continue delivering world-class banking solutions while supporting national development priorities.” He added that the bank’s performance has been built on “the trust of our customers, the support of our regulators, and the dedication of our employees.”

The Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Prof. Mthuli Ncube, said the commissioning of the building is “a powerful symbol of progress” as Zimbabwe transitions from the stabilisation phase of NDS 1 to the transformative phase of NDS 2 (2026–2030). He said a strong banking sector is essential to structural transformation, industrialisation and value addition.

The Minister of Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Harare Metropolitan Province, Hon. Sen. Charles Tavengwa, said the development is “a powerful vote of confidence” in Harare and praised the project as “devolution in action,” highlighting the use of local architects, engineers and construction teams.

The new headquarters includes sustainability features such as solar-control glazing, rainwater harvesting, energy-efficient systems and materials aligned with environmentally responsible building standards. The project reflects Ecobank’s commitment to sustainable development and modern banking infrastructure

Ecobank Zimbabwe continues to support women-led enterprises, youth empowerment, trade finance, financial inclusion and community development through initiatives including the Ecobank Ellevate Programme and the Ecobank Mark Trade Hub.

The official opening marks a significant milestone for Ecobank Zimbabwe and reaffirms its role as a future-focused financial institution committed to Zimbabwe’s economic transformation.
