Ecobank Gives Shop Owners a Convenient and Smart Way to Receive Payments via EcobankPay

Blantyre, July 1, 2022 – Ecobank Malawi has intensified its digitization strategy as it seeks to deliver unified and instant self-service across a range of interconnected payment solutions. The Bank recently engaged several merchants consisting of shop owners and other businesses located around Ginnery Corner-Karim Ayub Mart Shopping Complex offering them a free multi-featured digital payment solution known as Ecobank Pay.

EcobankPay, is an innovative, cost-effective and convenient digital payment solution that allows merchants to receive payments from customers by using their mobile phones to scan its interoperable Quick Reader (QR code).

The QR code is easy to set up and accepts both Visa and MasterCard payments. Shoppers just need to scan a Visa or Mastercard compliant QR code via Ecobank Mobile App or dial the Ecobank Mobile USSD code *326# giving them a contactless and smart way to make payments when shopping. Ecobank Pay makes it easy for shop owners and other businesses to instantly collect payments from customers anytime, anywhere, and also provides real-time reconciliation of all EcobankPay transactions.

Through the Engagement that marked the area as an EcobankPay Zone, shop owners were oriented on how easy it is to set up and receive payments via EcobankPay with many of them self on boarding and signing up on the free platform.

In her remarks, Ecobank Malawi Head of Commercial Banking, Victoria Chanza said the Bank is geared towards creating a digital and cashless society through its unique digital banking ecosystem offering.

“Ecobank is committed to simplifying doing business for our customers and Ecobank Pay is a payment channel that makes payments easier, faster, convenient and more secure. The good thing about this is that it is absolutely free and Ecobank customers with a business account can self on board via Rafiki Messenger, the Ecobank chatbot that operates on WhatsApp number +28870355979. As the Ecobank Pay ecosystem expands, it will unify all our digital payment offerings, incorporating Internet payments, eCommerce, paying bills by mobile, Airtime top up via mobile and many more” Chanza said.

One of the clients, WT Organics, the proprietor of a specialized shop that stocks hair, beauty and health products said EcobankPay was useful to her as it helps her to track her sales and easily make financial reports for her business.

“Ecobank pay truly eases the way I do business, saving me time on accounting and auditing issues hence giving me more time to focus more on growing my business” Wezi Nkhana said.
